Connecting over WiFi

From the Fire TV home screen choose Settings > Network.

Select your VPN Router's WiFi network and enter its password.

If Fire TV clings to your old network, select the old network and choose Forget first.

Restart the Fire TV (Settings > My Fire TV > Restart) so apps pick up the new location.
Note: If you're switching from a wired connection to WiFi, disconnect the Ethernet cable from your Fire TV first.
Connecting with a wired (Ethernet) connection

Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the back of your Fire TV, and the other end to an available Ethernet port on your VPN Router.

Select Settings > Network from the Fire TV menu.

Select the Wired option — you'll see an on-screen confirmation once connected.
Note: 3rd-generation Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote and 2017 Fire TV models need an Amazon Ethernet Adaptor (sold separately) to use a wired connection — or connect over WiFi instead.
UK apps missing from the store?

On the Amazon website, check your account's Digital Content country is set to the UK (Manage Content and Devices > Preferences).

On the Fire TV: Settings > Account & Profile Settings > Sync Amazon Content (older sticks: Settings > My Account).
Note: Power the Fire Stick from the wall plug, not the TV's USB port — TV USB can't supply enough power and causes WiFi drops.
Amazon Prime Video regional content
Unlike Netflix, Amazon Prime Video needs a subscription for the country you want to watch from, regardless of the country your VPN Router is set to. With Netflix, one subscription works for any region your VPN IP is set to. With Prime Video, your Fire TV's linked Amazon account needs a Prime subscription for the specific country you want content from, and your VPN Router needs to be set to that same country.
For example, if you're in Spain or France and want UK Prime Video content, you'll need a UK (not Spanish Amazon.es) Prime subscription and a UK VPN setting on your VPN Router.
