Manual VPN - Windows 11 (L2TP)

Most customers should use our free Windows app (see 'VPN Software – Windows') - it's quicker and manages servers for you. Use this manual method only if you can't install the app (e.g. a locked-down work laptop).

Add the VPN connection

  1. Right-click the network icon in the taskbar and choose Network and Internet settings.

  2. Click VPN, then Add VPN.

  3. VPN provider: Windows (built-in).

  4. Connection name: Liberty Shield.

  5. Server name or address: the server address for your account - shown in your welcome email, or ask support.

  6. VPN type: L2TP/IPsec with pre-shared key and enter the pre-shared key 953783903

  7. Sign-in info: User name and password - enter your Liberty Shield login, tick Remember, and Save.

  8. Click Connect next to the new Liberty Shield entry.

Connecting quickly from the taskbar

Click the Network/Volume/Battery icons on the taskbar and use the VPN quick setting to connect and disconnect in one click.

When connected, a small blue shield appears over the network icon:

Check it worked: visit showmemyip.com - it should display the VPN country ip address.
