Using Powerline Adapters with VPN Router

Connecting a powerline adapter to your VPN Router is a great way to get the best possible connection for devices in different rooms to your VPN Router location.

Which models of Powerline Adapter do you recommend?

Essentially any manufacturer Powerline Adapter should work just fine with the VPN Router, we have personally tested several models including these popular choices:

  • Asus 1200Mbps AV2 1200
  • Devolo dLAN 1200+
  • Devolo dLAN Duo 500
  • TP-Link AV2000
  • TP-LINK AV600

Common Mistake with Powerline Adapters?

We regularly hear from customers who forget to switch their Powerline Adapters from their ISP Router to their VPN Router, if you wish to extend your VPN network range rather than your ISP network then you will need to disconnect the adapter connected to your ISP Router and connect it to the VPN Router instead.  For instance, if your VPN Router is in one room and you have a device which needs an ethernet cable connected to the VPN Router (e.g. MAG Box, Zgemma, FireTV, PS4, XBox, NOW TV etc) then the one end of the Powerline adapter needs to be connected to the VPN Router and the other to the mains close the device you wish to connect.

Pairing Your Powerline Adapter

When you switch your Powerline Adapter from your ISP Router to the VPN Router you may need to re-pair the connectors.

Here is a standard guide to re-pairing your adapters:

  • Press and hold the Pair button of Powerline adapter A (in no particular definition; just pick one from your powerline adapters as A, another as B) for 1 second, the Power LED will start flashing.
  • In 120 seconds, please press and hold the Pair button of adapter B for 1 second, the Power LED will start flashing.
